Hi
You may well be looking for input from Neil, although if you are open to other input then read on: I personally have both the Shimano STC (Shimano Travel Concept) spinning rods, which I'd recommend, especially if you are likely to go abroad (as they pack down to suitcase size)or want to be able to keep a rod in the back of the car out of sight etc. Of the two, the model TEXS 330H (10 ft / 11ft - can be set up to be either) and is more the "all rounder" than the light version (which is 8ft / 9ft), and the longer rod casts officially from 50gms to 100 gms but can be used well below those ratings. I use it a lot for surface poppers after bass in Dorset (ie chug bugs etc), and have also had Pollock to 8 lbs on it from the shore in County Kerry and mullet in Majorca etc on sub surface lures etc
That aside, if looking for a two piece rod, its fair to say spinning rods from all the major brands are pretty good, as this is one area of the market which most makers have decent products across the board - ABU are one of the best as they have a very long track record in such rods (they have various models to suit all budgets) but there are plenty of others as well.
As far as spinning / lure work is concered, the reel is much more important to get right I would say. Personally, I would'nt recommend a Baitrunner, as I cannot see you'd need the BR facility for lure work (its really for ledgering) - the OKUMA reels are pretty good (and if you are really wanting a baitrunner facility, they do one or two like that), or more to the point, have a look at one of the non baitrunnder mid price Shimanos perhaps - I'd take advice from a dealer - you want something with really (REALLY) good line lay above all else, if you want to avoid tears. Don't forget, the reel will be working all the time, hence the need to get the best line lay you can afford.
Personally, I use a ABU top end centre drag fixed spool which is now recently gone out of production, and cost an arm and a leg (£150), but its fantastic and the best thing I've ever used fixed spool wise (and I have Shimanos, OKUMAs and Daiwas).
hope this helps
